Clients Learn Valuable Sewing Skills

Another great news story from one of our groups in Mackay who decided to undertake in another sewing project, this time it was a vest which everyone was excited about.

So the venture began. The first stop was at Spotlight to purchase some material. When picking out material, the ladies at Spotlight asked what we were making. After hearing that we were going to be making a vest each, they were pleased to see both males and females attempting the project.

The weeks went by and the vests were looking good. Throughout the project there was cutting out and pinning involved. Each client was taught these new skills during the process of developing the finished product.

At the end of eight weeks, we had finished our vests and we can now add a vest to our sewing collection. Maybe our next sewing project will be curtains to match our quilts (which was a past project).

The young men and lady involved in the project were very excited when they were asked to have their photo taken wearing their vests. To be able to show off their achievements at the end of the project was something they were extremely proud of.

We would like to thank the ladies at Spotlight, Mackay City Library for the use of the venue and most of all, the Excelcare Support Workers, especially Michelle Partridge for her sewing skills and efforts cutting out the material as well as Bill Tucker for the project suggestions.

Keep up the good work guys!
